- The Broadlands Hydro Power Plant is being built in Kitulgala area situated in the Divisional Secretariat Division of Ambagamuwa Korale and Yatiyantota, and the expected capacity from the plant is 35 MW. This Hydro Power Plant is a significant milestone in the generation of renewable energy in Sri Lanka and it is one of the few medium scale Hydro Power Plants built in the Country. The financial facilities required for the constructions of this Plant has been secured from the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) and the insurance cover for that facility has been provided by the China Export and Credit Insurance Corporation (SINOSURE). The proposal made by Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, the Minister of Power and Energy, to accept the said insurance institution as a combined lender of this loan facility, was approved by the Cabinet.
