Establishment of an Emergency and Accident Centre at the Teaching Hospital, Batticaloa
- This project, implemented under the funds provided by the Government of Sri Lanka and the 'Foundation Supporting a National Trauma Service in Sri Lanka', in the State of Victoria, Australia will establish a three storeyed Emergency and Accident Trauma Complex with with 100 bed facilities, 06 Operating Theaters and Intensive Care Units in the premises of Batticaloa Hospital to address the increasing demand of emergency accident services in Eastern Province, and thereby it is expected to enhance the quality and capacity of the said Teaching Hospital. Considering the urgent need to implement this project, the proposal made by Hon.(Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne, the Minister of Health and Indigenous Medicine, to award the construction contract of the same to the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau (CECB), at an estimated cost of Rs.807 million, was approved by the Cabinet.
