To launch the National Policy on Drug Prevention and Action Plan

- It has been revealed through the surveys conducted, that the 1/3 of the income of the low income families of Sri Lanka is being spent for tobacco and alcohol, and over 22% of the expenditure by the Government on free health service is incurred in respect of the ailing persons due to the consumption of tobacco and alcohol. With a view to improving the health and well being of the Sri Lankans, a programme to gradually reduce the use of tobacco, alcohol and illicit drugs is being implemented by the Presidential Task Force on Drug Prevention, and as such the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, to declare 9th July to 8th August, 2015 as the 'National Drug Prevention Month', to draw the public attention to this programme, and to launch the National Policy on Drug Prevention and the Action Plan, and to implement this programme with the cooperation of all Ministries, Departments and the Semi?Government Institutions, was approved by the Cabinet.
