- In order to maintain the National Measurement System accurately and to have the international recognition for the same, a Laboratory was designed in compliance with the international criteria and the construction works of that Laboratory have commenced in 2009 and the constructions are being carried out in Pitipana area in Homagama. The said constructions are to be completed soon. Taking into consideration the escalation of prices, the proposal made by Hon. Gamini Jayawickrema Perera, the Minister of Food Security, to revise the total cost of this project from Rs.1,950 million to Rs. 2,433 million and to award the contract for the installation of High Precision Air Conditioning System in the Laboratory, was approved by the Cabinet.
