- The existence of a focal organization in the country to collect all the important research and development information and data related to the fisheries and aquatic resources sector and to utilise these for the development of the country has been a long felt need, and as a solution to this, action is being taken to establish the Sri Lanka Fisheries and the Aquatic Resources Association comprising of academics from universities and higher education institutions and the researchers of the government and non?governmental institutions interested in the fisheries sector. In order to form a more constructive base for the development of the fisheries sector in the country, the proposal made by Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, to incorporate the Sri Lanka Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Association, was approved by the Cabinet.
