- The joint proposal made by Hon. Ranjith Madduma Bandara, the Minister of Internal Transport and Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, the Minister of Power and Energy, to grant policy priority for the electrification of Colombo Urban Railway Service, with a medium term objective of establishing an efficient railway service which suits the contemporary global standards, to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study pertaining to the electrification of railway system between Panadura and Veyangoda based on the preliminary feasibility study conducted jointly by the Sri Lanka Institute of Engineers, Ceylon Electricity Board and the Department of Sri Lanka Railways, to determine the Railway electrification strategies and projects within the recommended policy framework based on the said study reports and also to implement the said proposals with a maximum capital productivity and avoiding corruption and waste, following a transparent and competitive methodology, was approved by the Cabinet.
