- The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) has invested US$80 million for the construction of the first 400 meters of the 1200 meters long East Container Terminal Berth and by now its construction work is nearing completion. The proposal made by Hon. Arjuna Ranatunga, the Minister of Ports and Shipping, to procure 04 Container Handling Cranes and 12 Gantry Cranes required for this Terminal, according to International Competitive Bidding method, following the Government approved procurement process, was approved by the Cabinet.
