- The National Sports Festival is held annually with the objective of identifying the talents prevail in the fields of Sports in the country and to develop such talents. Arrangements are afoot, for the National Sports Festival which is to be held for the 41st time and the final events of the Festival will be held in Badulla Town at the latter half of 2015. The proposal made by Hon.Navin Dissanayake, the Minister of Tourism and Sports, to hold the National Sports Festival - 2016 in the Districts of Jaffna and Kilinochchi of the Northern Province ensuring the participation of all Sri Lankans with a view to integrate the rural community to the main stream of the society and to appoint a Steering Committee comprising of Senior Officials to organize the event, was approved by the Cabinet.
