- The Information and Communication Technology sector in Sri Lanka has developed rapidly during the recent times. According to the Global Information Technology Report for the year 2015, published by the World Economic Forum, the Sri Lanka has been placed in the 65th place among 143 countries in the Networked Readiness Index, securing the 1st place in the South Asian Region. The proposal made by Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, to further expand the existing Inter-Ministerial Committee, appointed in terms of the Section 3 of the above Act, with the representation of relevant Ministers and other concerned stakeholders in the field, to further develop the existing position, to ensure that the strategies in the Information and Communication Technology field are being implemented appropriately, in order to create a more conducive environment for investors and to have a greater coordination among Government Institutions, was approved by the Cabinet.
