- The Polonnaruwa District of the North Central Province covers an area of 3337.9 Sq kms in extent and constitutes 07 Divisional Secretary's Divisions and 295 Grama Niladhari Divisions. The building where the District Secretariat is housed is 53 years old and over 25 public institutions of other departments and ministries are also located. The proposal made by the Minister of Home Affairs Joseph Michael Perera to construct a District Secretariat Complex with modern facilities to ensure a more efficient and productive service to the public, was approved by the Cabinet.
