- The Cabinet has granted approval in 2012 to implement self-employment loan scheme for socially re-integrated trainees who had been involved in terrorist activities. This Loan Scheme has provided a wide opportunity to the socially re-integrated youth to conduct their livelihood activities successfully while also providing a strong base to create the necessary economic atmosphere for them to live as good citizens in the society. The amount of loans so granted by State Banks up to 31?12?2014 exceed Rs. 302 million. The number of applications submitted in anticipation to obtain loans in the future are more than 5,750. Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Resettlement, Reconstruction and Hindu Religious Affairs, D.M.Swaminathan, to implement Stage II of this Loan Scheme with the revisions required, through the Bank of Ceylon, Peoples' Bank, Lanka Puthra Bank and the Savings Bank of Sri Lanka, was approved by the Cabinet.
