- The distribution of milk packets to school children was implemented in collaboration with the Milco (Pvt) Ltd., with the objective of promoting liquid milk consumption, encouraging dairy farmers and familiarizing local food consumption patterns. Having taken into consideration, that the purchase price of per liter of milk has increased up to Rs.70/- as per the new proposals of the 2015 Budget, the proposal made by Hon. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, the Minister of Education, to purchase per packet of 150ml of milk at a revised rate of Rs.20/-, in accordance with the trilateral agreement existing among the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Social Services, Welfare and Livestock Development and the Milco (Pvt) Ltd., was approved by the Cabinet.
