- The Peradeniya - Badulla - Chenkaladi Road has been identified as a major road that links the Eastern and the Central Provinces of the country. Accordingly, the road section from Peradeniya to Badulla has been rehabilitated and the balance road section of 151.3km from Badulla to Chenkaladi is to be rehabilitated through this project. The necessary action is being already taken to obtain a loan of US$60.0 million from the OPEC Fund for International Development, for the purpose. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ravi Karunanayake, the Minister of Finance, to conduct negotiations with the Saudi Fund for Development, to obtain another loan of US$60.0 million for this project and to enter into a loan agreement, was approved by the Cabinet.
