- Sir John Kotelawala Defence University which was established with a mission for producing academically and professionally qualified personnel to the Armed Forces fulfills the higher educational aspirations of Officer Cadets / Civilian Students providing Degree Programs in numerous fields. The University has offered two (02) placements each for the students of the countries of the African and Asian regions as well as to pursue their studies on a gratis basis, in order to extend goodwill among these countries. Having taken into consideration of a request made by the former President of Afghanistan H.E. Hamid Karzai on his official visit to Sri Lanka during 2014, the proposal made by H.E. the President in his capacity as the Minister of Defence to offer two (02) additional placements to Afghanistan was approved by the Cabinet.
