The devastating earth quake which occurred in Nepal during the recent past caused extensive damage to the people of Nepal and the Government of Sri Lanka intervened to send aid groups along with essential food items to provide them with relief. It has been reported by the Embassy of Sri Lanka that a large number of Theravada Buddihist places of worship have been severely affected and the proposal made by the Minister of Buddha Sasana, Hon. Karu Jayasuriya for the Government of Sri Lanka to make a contribution to renovate one Buddhist shrine and one Hindu shrine out of those damaged, was approved by the Cabinet.
