- The Department of Agriculture which comes under the purview of the Ministry of Agriculture is the main institute responsible for agricultural activities of the country and its prime objective is to enhance the income and the living standards of farmers by increasing production and productivity and also providing the consumer with quality agricultural products at a reasonable price. The proposal made by the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Duminda Dissanayake, for the appointment of a Committee named 'The Advisory Committee to the Department of Agriculture' comprising of the Agriculture related Institutions and of the officials and personnel represent the Agriculture Sector, was approved by the Cabinet.
