Accident and Emergency Care Policy in Sri Lanka

- Sri Lanka has achieved remarkable health status indicators those can be compared equally with the health status indicators of the developed countries. However, Accident and Emergency Care Services need further development and in the recent past since there has been an increased incidence of accidents and emergencies, the urgent need for an emergency care services has been intensified. The policy proposes to introduce a well coordinated, stratified and cost?effective accident and emergency care service by establishing new units or upgrading the existing Accident and Emergency Units with a health system approach for timely access to integrated care in all emergencies to prevent death and disability with a view to providing prompt and quality patient care services with safety, dignity and compassion. 'The Accident and Emergency Care Policy in Sri Lanka' presented by the Minister of Health and Indigenous Medicine, Hon. Rajitha Senaratne, was approved by the Cabinet.
