- The Sri Lanka Ports Authority has commenced activities to construct its own container terminal within the Colombo South Harbour, namely, 'the East Container Terminal'. The proposal made by Hon. Arjuna Ranatunga, the Minister of Ports and Shipping, to proceed with the necessary activities for procurement of container handling cranes, to commence the operational activities with the completion of the civil construction work, was approved by the Cabinet.
