- It is declared in the 100 Day Programme that the action will be taken to provide land ownership and proper housing to plantation workers instead of their current confinement in line rooms. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon.Lakshman Kiriella, the Minister of Plantation Industries, to implement the measures identified to be followed for the said purpose with the concurrence of all relevant stakeholders, to provide the estate workers each with a plot of land in extent of 07 perches, to provide them with a bankable document for those lands and to take back the houses constructed under different schemes and given to the beneficiaries, but subsequently transferred to third parties illegally and vest the said houses with the Estate Worker Housing Co-operative Societies without providing compensation, was approved by the Cabinet.
