Recognition of INTERPOL Travel Document in Sri Lanka

- The International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO) of which Sri Lanka is also a member, has introduced a special travel document to enable the officers of the INTERPOL and the law enforcement officers who travel abroad to conduct transnational investigations pertaining to the official duties of INTERPOL, to obtain visas expeditiously. At present, 72 member countries of the ICPO, including several Asian countries such as Malaysia, Maldives, Pakistan, Nepal, Afghanistan, Laos, Philippines and Singapore have recognized this special travel document. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. John Amarathunga, the Minister of Public Order and Christian Affairs, to enter into an Agreement for the recognition of said Special Travel Document, as per the request made by ICPO and to authorize the Inspector General of Police to sign the said Agreement on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka, was approved by the Cabinet.
