Amendment to the Registration of Persons Act, No.32 of 1968 to make provisions to establish a persons’ data base containing biometric information and for the issuance of Electronic National Identity Card - The proposal made by Hon. John Amarathunga, Minister of Public Order and Christian Affairs, to publish the draft Bill prepared by the Legal Draftsman to amend the Registration of Persons' Act, No.32 of 1968 incorporating provisions to issue an Electronic National Identity Card and to establish a persons’ data base containing biometric information (finger prints) in the Government Gazette and to present the draft Bill in Parliament thereafter for approval, was approved by the Cabinet. |
