- The Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) project to develop basic social services targeting emerging regions has selected Teldeniya Base Hospital in the district of Kandy to improve its secondary level health care facilities. The proposal made by Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, Minister of Health and Indigenous Medicine, to obtain an additional estimated financial provision of Rs.200 Mn. to install a mechanical and electrical system in the hospital to be in line with its undergoing development activities, was approved by the Cabinet.
