- The proposal made by Hon. John Amarathunga, Minister of Public Order, Disaster Management and Christian Affairs, to enter into the above Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) drafted with a view to strengthening the mutual cooperation on Disaster Management between Sri Lanka and Pakistan and thereby to creating an effective disaster management mechanism was approved by the Cabinet. In accordance with the MoU the Governments of Sri Lanka and Pakistan will collaborate in the field of Disaster Management with regard to following aspects:

* Community Shelter in Cyclone Affected System;

* Volunteer Based Early Warning System for Community Disaster Risk Reduction at Community Level;

* Enactment of Legislation regulating Development activities in the flood plains and wet lands in landslide soil erosion prone areas;

* Guidelines for participatory flood management;

* Early flood and landslide warning system; and

* Effective disaster relief services.
