Rs.20,000/- Nutritional Food Package for Pregnant Mothers

- The above programme which was incorporated in the 100 Days Programme of the Government has been planned to be implemented as the “Healthy Motherhood Programme” effective from 21st March 2015 as proposed in the Budget Speech 2015. Accordingly -

* all pregnant mothers, registered and regularly attending the Government Antenatal Clinics are eligible for the proposed allowance on the recommendation of the Doctors;

* nutritional food will be provided under this programme in installments of Rs.2,000/= each for a period of ten months including the last six months of pregnancy and the first four months after the child birth;

* the programme will be implemented by the Divisional Secretaries with the assistance of the Medical Officers and the Family Health Officers serving in the antenatal clinics under the supervision of the respective District Secretary/Government Agent on the direction of the State Ministry for Child Affairs.

The above proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Policy Planning, Economic Affairs, Child, Youth and Cultural Affairs, was approved by the Cabinet.
