Distribution of subsidized fertilizer for paddy cultivation during Yala Season 2015

-The fertilizer subsidy provided for the paddy cultivation has resulted in high yields. Accordingly, the total extent of land envisaged for cultivation in the Yala season of 2015 is 540,000 hectares and the total fertilizer requirement is estimated at 162,733 MT. Taking these facts into consideration, the proposal made by Hon. Duminda Dissanayake, Minister of Irrigation and Agriculture, to implement the fertilizer subsidy scheme in the Yala Season 2015 and also to take necessary activities to purchase the required quantity of fertilizer ensuring its quality, was approved by the Cabinet.
