Supply of vegetable seedlings at concessionary prices and vegetable seeds on a 50% subsidy for small scale farm lands for off-season vegetable cultivation

- The proposal made by Hon. Duminda Dissanayake, Minister of Irrigation and Agriculture, to present a pot of plant suitably prepared for easy cultivation to the people at a concessionary price amounting to Rs.25/-, instead of distributing vegetable seeds and to provide relief for seeds requirement to encourage farmers engaged in vegetable cultivation on commercial basis in selected lands in extent up to ½ acre, with a view to popularizing home garden concept, arresting the escalation in vegetable prices and to maintaining a fair price throughout the year, was approved by the Cabinet.
