Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2015-02-18
Visit to Washington DC and New York

- the Minister of Foreign Affairs informed the Cabinet that he had an official visit to the United States of America on 11th and 12th of this month and during his state visit he had successful bilateral discussions with Mr. John F Kerry, the United States Secretary of State, Ms. Samantha Power, US Permanent Representative to the United Nations and many other high ranking State Officials. The Minister stated that in his discussion, specially with the Secretary of State, Mr. Kerry expressed the view that he appreciated the expeditious measures adopted by the new Government of Sri Lanka and that he is really interested in the 100 Day Programme of the Government. The Minister further stated that he had the opportunity of meeting the Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-moon and that while holding discussions with him he also focused his attention over the cordial relationship Sri Lanka had with the United Nations for the last sixty years. The Minister further informed the Cabinet that in consideration of the written request made by him to the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights to postpone the presentation of the Report concerning Sri Lanka scheduled for March this year, he was able to postpone it by a further six months.
