- the proposal made by the Minister of Plantation Infrastructure Development, Hon. Palani Digambaram to obtain a grant of around US $260 million from the Government of India to construct 20,000 individual houses for the plantation workers, so as to cover the Nuwara Eliya District including Hatton, Badulla, Ratnapura, Kegalle, Kandy, Matale and Galle Districts and to re?roof and improve the existing 30,000 line rooms for better conditions of living as an interim measure for the families which cannot be provided with individual houses in the first stage itself, was approved by the Cabinet.
