- the proposal made by the Minister of Food Security, Hon. Gamini Jayawickrema Perera to appoint a Committee to investigate into the alleged malpractices, corrupt activities and misuse of power said to have been carried out by certain elements in the Institutions gazetted under the Ministry of Food Security and initiate legal action against the persons concerned and to report on the measures to be adopted to prevent such occurrences again, was approved by the Cabinet.

Since several voluntary organizations engaged in anti-corruption activities have expressed their willingness to voluntarily assist in the investigations on corruption and malpractices taken place in various Government Institutions, it was also decided to explore the possibility of appointing professionals from such organizations to the Committee.
