- the proposal made by the Prime Minister Hon. Ranil Wickramasinghe to establish a Secretariat for the Anti Corruption Committee to investigate into large scale corruption and fraudulent activities that prevailed during the previous Government and initiate legal action againsts those responsible for same and recommend measures to be adopted to prevent such occurrences in future, was approved by the Cabinet. In addition, approval was also granted to establish a Financial Crimes Investigation Division under the supervision of the Inspector General of Police to investigate into large scale illegal financial transactions including money laundering. The notification in this regard will be published in the Government Gazette by the Inspector General of Police under Section 55 of the Police Ordinance.
