Establishment of a Tea Promotion Unit in the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beijing, China

- the domestic consumption of black tea is increasing in China and the current import of black tea is around 15 million kg and it is estimated that it will reach 100 million kg by the year 2020. Sri Lanka is the largest supplier of black tea to China and shares 27% of the market. The proposal made by Hon. Mahinda Samarasinghe, Minister of Plantation Industries, to set up a Tea Promotion Unit at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beijing, China and to proceed with the related activities, was approved by the Cabinet.
