- the proposal made by Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of Disaster Management, to provide relief to the victims of the above disaster as follows, was approved by the Cabinet:

* payment of Rs.100,000/- each on behalf of the 12 persons who had died and 20 persons who had disappeared due to the above disaster, after proper identification of the eligible recipients;

* payment upto a maximum of Rs.50,000/- each to the five persons who were injured, taking into consideration the nature of their injuries and Rs.10,000/- to be paid as an initial installment; and

* payment of Rs.25,000/- each to the widow / widower or the next-of-kin of the deceased persons as funeral expenses.
