- the National Safety Day is commemorated on the 26th of December every year with the participation of the public with a view to raising awareness of the public on how they should face natural disasters and how they should get involved in disaster mitigation. The Ministry of Disaster Management intends to conduct a series of programmes to commemorate this day at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Conference Hall at Hambantota under the main theme “Safer Sri Lanka” and the sub theme “Let us unite to mitigate the impact of disasters”. The proposal made by Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of Disaster Management, to proceed with the related activities, was approved by the Cabinet.
