- the main objective of this project is to build up the life patterns of the agricultural community depending on rain water and residing near the Mahaweli River Basin, by helping them to adapt themselves to adverse effects of climate change through productive use of land and water and directing them towards diversified sustainable livelihoods. On the proposal made by Hon. Susil Premajayantha, Minister of Environment and Renewable Energy, Cabinet decided to implement the programme drawn up covering all areas subjected to adverse effects of climate change, by utilizing US $7,989,727 donated by the United Nations Adaptation Fund.
