- the Dutch Fort in Jaffna was built by the Dutch in 1690 and the Department of Archeology commenced conservation work of same in 2009 with financial assistance from the Government of Netherlands and the Government of Sri Lanka. The proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Jagath Balasooriya, Minister of National Heritage, to complete the balance conservation activities in the Dutch Fort in Jaffna with an estimated cost of Rs.200 million within the next 4 years commencing from 2014, was approved by the Cabinet.
