- it has been observed that there is an increasing demand for fruits in the local as well as the overseas market. With the objective of introducing new varieties, producing quality seeds and planting material and promoting the interest and ambition of people towards the cultivation of fruits and provision of basic propagation materials of recommended varieties, the initial phase of establishing tropical fruit gardens in Horana, Kundasale and Diyagama, has already been finalized. The proposal made by Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Minister of Agriculture, to proceed with the relevant activities, was approved by the Cabinet.
