- 26th of December each year has been declared as the "National Safety Day" which has been commemorated for seven years continuously since 2006, centering around Galle, Ratnapura, Kandy, Kurunegala, Jaffna, Batticaloa and Badulla Districts respectively. The proposal made by Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of Disaster Management, to implement the programmes scheduled for the purpose for the National Safety Day 2013 in the Kalutara District, with the active participation of the relevant Ministries and Provincial Council and other stakeholders, was approved by the Cabinet.
