Contribution to Commonwealth Scholarship Endowment Fund

- Sri Lanka has been a beneficiary of Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan for a long period of time and a large number of University Academics of Sri Lanka have benefited from this Scholarship Scheme which has significantly contributed towards the improvement of academic standards of our universities. From this year onwards, the Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom has listed Sri Lanka as a Commonwealth Scholarship Awarding country providing necessary financial assistance for same. The proposal made by Hon. S.B. Dissanayake, Minister of Higher Education, to make a one time contribution of US $50,000 towards the Commonwealth Scholarship Endowment Fund from the funds allocated to the University Grants Commission for 2013, was approved by the Cabinet.
