Extension of Southern Expressway from Matara to Hambantota - Award of Three Civil Works Contracts

- construction of a section from Kottawa to Galle (Pinnaduwa) of the Southern Expressway, having a length of 95.275 km, has been completed and is now in operation. The section from Galle (Pinnaduwa) to Matara (Godagama), having a length of 30.25 km is being constructed and is expected to commence operation shortly. The extension of the Southern Expressway for a length approximately 96 km from Matara to Hambantota is one of the key components in the development of the road network to support and facilitate the activities of the Hambantota International Hub Development. The proposal made by H.E. the President, in his capacity as the Minister of Ports and Highways, to award the following contracts as recommended by the Standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee (SCAPC), was approved by the Cabinet.

* Matara to Beliatta - 30 km
* Beliatta to Wetiya - 26 km
* Mattala to Hambantota via Andarawewa - 25 km
