A). Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Co-operation (BIMSTEC) Convention on Cooperation in Combating International Terrorism, Transnational Organized Crime and Illicit Drug Trafficking

- the salient features of this Convention are -

*    co-operation in sharing experiences in areas of mutual concern while enhancing co-operation between law enforcement Agencies of the Member Countries;

*    sharing and exchanging of information on financing of terrorism, transnational organized crime and illicit drug trafficking; and

*    co-ordinating ways and means to facilitate mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, arrest, extradition and prosecution of individuals, their associates engaged in crimes covered within the scope of the Convention.


B). Memorandum of Association (MOA) among the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Co-operation (BIMSTEC) Member Countries for Establishment of BIMSTEC Energy Centre - the main objectives of this MOA are -

*    to create, manage  and evaluate energy related data-base relevant to the Region;   

*    to prepare and operate a framework for networking among the national level institutions in the Region; and

*    to enhance co-operation for capacity building and sharing of experiences on best practices.

The proposal made by Hon. (Prof.) G.L. Peiris, Minister of External Affairs, to proceed with the activities relating to the above, was approved by the Cabinet.
