Rehabilitation Project for Gin Ganga Flood Regulation Scheme

- this Scheme implemented with Chinese Government aid in the late 70's had commenced its operation in 1982 and is located in the Galle District, covering Badalgama, Bope - Poddala, Welivita, Divitura and Hikkaduwa Divisional Secretary's Division.  The main objectives of the Scheme are, to protect cultivation of 5000 ha of paddy lands in lower valley of Gin Ganga from damages caused by frequent flooding and to protect around 20,000 families living in the area from flood hazards.  Having observed that, rehabilitation of Gin Ganga Flood Regulation Scheme is a long felt need, Cabinet approval was granted to the proposal made by Hon. Nimal Siripala de Silva, Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Management, to implement the said rehabilitation project at a total cost of Rs.700 million, over a period of 3 years from 2014 to 2016.
