- on the proposal made by Hon. Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Minister of National Languages and Social Integration, to establish Provincial Offices to provide services to the Public relating to National Languages and Social Integration at Provincial Level, Cabinet approval was granted for the submission of a detailed Project Report covering all Provinces, to the Department of National Planning of the Ministry of Finance and Planning for appraisal and for the provision of funds for the purpose under the Medium Term Expenditure Framework 2014-2016. Some of the activities to be carried out by this office are -

monitoring of all language classes in the Province and providing facilities to conduct classes;


*    effective assistance for co-ordination and implementation of social integration activities;


*    provision of translation and interpretation facilities;


*    identification of challenges faced by Public Institutions in implementing the Official Languages Policy of the Government;


*    matters relating to the implementation of the Official Languages Policy of the Government;


*    language training and co-ordination by the National Institute for Language Education and Training.
