- according to a concept of H.E. the President it has been proposed to modernize the SLBC under a leading project of the Government.  The objective of this project is to upgrade, while preserving the historic value of the Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, which has commenced its services as the oldest broadcasting service in South Asia in 1924.  The proposal made by Hon. Keheliya Rambukwella, Minister of Mass Media and Information, to obtain architectural consultancy services from the UDA and required funds from the Government Treasury, was approved by the Cabinet.
