Cabinet of Ministers noted the information on achievement at National, Provincial, District and Zonal levels, based on the results of the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination - 2012, submitted by Hon. Bandula Gunawardena, Minister of Education. According to the analysis -

• 64.74% of the students who sat for the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination, 2012 have qualified to study for the G.C.E. (A/L). This is an increase of 15.04% from 2005 - 2012 ;

• the percentage of students who have failed in all the subjects which was 8.02% in 2005 has decreased to 4.13% in 2012 ;

• the percentage of students qualified in 2012 to follow A/L classes in the Eastern, Northern and Uva Provinces has increased by 5.8%, 5.73% and 5.81% respectively, when compared with that of 2011;
