Weras Ganga Storm Water Drainage and Environmental Improvement Project

preliminary works of the above Project have commenced and the implementation of the Project will improve the environmental system of Colombo and its suburbs, particularly flood control in the relevant areas. The Project is to be implemented under 02 phases. Phase I will consist of, improvement of Nugegoda - Raththanapitiya watercourse, improvement of canals within the North and South Sub-Zone of Boralesgamuwa, development of Maha Ela, and Weras Ganga by dredging, conservation of marshy lands and improvement of drainage system in Bolgoda area and its surroundings. The estimated cost of the Project is Rs.13,000 million. Measures will be taken to provide relief to the families to be displaced due to the implementation of the above Project. The proposal made by H.E. the President, in his capacity as the Minister of Defence and Urban Development, to grant relief to those to be affected, was approved by the Cabinet.
