Beliatta Town Development Project

- the Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Councils has initiated a programme to develop rapidly urbanizing small and medium scale towns in Sri Lanka where infrastructure facilities are not adequately developed for delivery of services to the Public. Beliatta town in the Hambantota District has been selected to be developed under this programme. Beliatta town is a Regional Centre which has access to a large number of main towns in the Hambantota District and it serves as a centre for collecting and marketing agricultural products. The proposal made by Hon. A.L.M. Athaullah, Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils, to proceed with the project at a total cost of Rs.638 million, was approved by the Cabinet.
