Greater Colombo Transmission and Distribution Loss Reduction Project

- it has been observed that the electricity demand in the Greater Colombo area has increased rapidly due to the development and investment promotion activities initiated by the government. The government of Japan has agreed to provide a loan amounting to Japanese Yen 15,941 million (approximately Rs.23,912 million) through Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) for the above project. The objective of the project is to construct a transmission and distribution network in the Greater Colombo area to strengthen the transmission and distribution capacity, increase reliability of power and reduce transmission losses. The proposal made by H.E. the President, in his capacity as the Minister of Finance and Planning to enter into a loan agreement for the purpose, was approved by the Cabinet.
