Obtaining Membership of the International Sugar Organization

- this is an Inter-Governmental Organization based in London which was established by the International Sugar Agreement of 1968 and its membership consists of the European Union and 59 other countries. Some of its objectives are -
* to ensure enhanced international co-operation in connection with world sugar matters and related issues;
* to provide a forum for inter-governmental consultations on this subject.
The proposal made by Hon. Reginold Cooray, Minister of Minor Export Crop Promotion, to obtain membership of the above organization, was approved by the Cabinet.
