Establishment of an Export Processing Zone (EPZ) at Mirijjavila

- the proposed Export Processing Zone will consist 228 hectares of government land released by Government Agencies in the Hambantota District. The projected expenditure for the development the EPZ is estimated at Rs.2.2 billion and the BOI will recover the cost as lease rental of individual blocks to be allocated to investors and for providing other services such as water, electricity etc. The proposal made by Hon. Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Economic Development, to proceed with the project, was approved by the Cabinet.
