Enhancing the Quality of Fossil Fuels for Managing Air Quality in Sri Lanka
- it has been observed that the use of low quality fossil fuel in vehicles, machinery and equipment etc. causes damage to engines and other systems of vehicles, machinery etc. as well as increase the pollution in the atmosphere. The Air Resources Management Centre of the Ministry of Environment has focused on this matter and has intervened to reduce its effects on air pollution by improving the quality of petrol through the introduction of lead free petrol. The proposal made by Hon. Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, Minister of Environment, for the appointment of a Cabinet Sub-Committee to examine this matter and make necessary recommendations, and also to appoint a Technical Committee consisting of Officials of the relevant Institutions to assist the Cabinet Sub-Committee, was approved by the Cabinet.
